What to do in the Event of a Death...


If you find someone whom you think is dying or dead you should perform CPR and ring the EMERGENCY NUMBER 111

WHAT TO DO IN THE EVENT OF A DEATH. There are two different situations i.e a sudden death or an expected death. Different actions are needed for each situation.

In the case of a Sudden Death.

Ring the Doctor and then.

Ring the Police Immediately.

DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING.

What do the Police do?

The Police must check the situation and then they will call their duty Funeral Director. The deceased is them taken to the Police Mortuary for a post-mortum to be held to estblish the cause of death.

What happens next?

The coroner establishes the cause of death and then the deceased is released to the family or next-of-kin. They contact the Funeral Director of their choice to make funeral arrangements.

What does the Funeral Director do?

Intially the Funeral Director takes the deceased to the Funeral Home where embalming & preparation takes place.

What is embalming?

Embalming is a process of preservation. It is also carried out for hygenic reasons. It is important during the funeral period especially if viewing is to take place as it ensures a more natural appearance and removes health risks. It is essential if the deceased is to be transported any distance.

What happens next?

The funeral director will sit down and discuss the situation with the family and assist the family with all the funeral arrangements. These are decisions to be made, for example, will you have the deceased taken back home until the funeral.
